Château de Chambord - Cycling guide from Blois to the Château de Chambord by veloiledefrance.com
Reaching the Château de Chambord on cycle

An intense journey at the gates of Paris, but which leaves a taste of a faraway journey, this cycle ride on the road from Blois to the Château de Chambord follows one of the routes of « la Loire à vélo » or “The Loire on cycle”. Cycling is also another experience for approaching this dazzling masterpiece of the French Renaissance, and for imbibing the nomadic spirit of its creator, the king François I.

Our tour begins at the train station of Blois, a pleasant little art town on the banks of the Loire, where you could also take the opportunity to visit the royal château of Blois. We will then take you on the route “la Loire à vélo” towards the château de Chambord, through the bucolic landscapes of wooded fields and vineyards of the Loire valley. We will approach the château by an intimate path that can be crossed only by foot or on cycle, away from the touristic routes, to take advantage of the grandeur and the solitude of the place. On the way back, after a short passage through the quiet countryside and along the banks of the river in its most unusual recesses, we will end the cycle tour at the Mer station to catch the return train.

Your stay in Blois: we have tested for you two hotels of very good quality for the price. They both are situated near the Blois station and have the "Accueil vélo" (Cyclists welcome) label:
  • Hotel Anne de Bretagne : its ivy-covered façade and its beautiful terrace are appealing. The clean and cosy rooms et a cycle proeminent decoration will bring you in the right cycling mood. The bike storage is in a courtyard next to the hotel and has no shelter... It is better to have good locks and properly secure the bike, even if the environment seems secure. The hotel also provides several features such as bike rental and packed lunch.
